About Cullasaja Club
Cullasaja Club lies outside Highlands in Macon County, with the Cullasaja River running through the property near its headwaters and Whiteside Mountain close by. Arvida Corporation created the community in 1987 as a second-home development, and the Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay course opened in 1989, a par 72 of roughly 6,900 yards. The club went private in 2000, and today it describes itself as home to about 350 families. Membership is by invitation, and the club offers generational privileges that extend to members' children and grandchildren.
Bill Bergin led a multi-phase renovation of the Palmer course; the second phase, finished in 2024, rebuilt 19 bunkers, three greens and ten tee complexes. Beyond golf, members have Ravenel Lake, a stocked lake of roughly 30 acres used for fly fishing, along with four croquet lawns, four tennis courts, a pool, a playground and a 24-hour activity center with fitness and wellness programs, and a renovated clubhouse of about 22,000 square feet. Homes and cottages are set among mature hardwoods along the course and lake, and the club keeps its own real-estate office.
