About Mountaintop Golf & Lake Club
Mountaintop Golf and Lake Club sits above Cashiers in Jackson County, with the course running between about 3,750 and 4,100 feet. Discovery Land Company developed it, and the club follows that firm's model: membership runs primarily with property ownership, a limited number of non-resident memberships are offered, and the amenity program is built around families rather than golf alone. Construction started in spring 2004 and Tom Fazio's course opened in July 2006. It plays 7,310 yards from the back, water is in play on 14 holes, and a waterfall feature runs from the first tee to the eighteenth green. Tees, greens and fairways are bentgrass, with the fairways built on sand capping for drainage in this wet climate.
The lake in the name is Lake Glenville. Members have a separate lake club there for boating and lake recreation. The lodge-style clubhouse holds the spa and salon and the dining rooms, there are tennis courts on the grounds, and lakes and waterfalls are worked into the property. Homesites are on steep, wooded terrain, and the club is private.
